India Morning Market News | Wednesday, October 14, 2026
Indian equity markets are heading into Wednesday’s trading session with a cautious outlook as GIFT Nifty indicates a subdued opening for the Sensex and Nifty 50. Despite a strong recovery in domestic equities on Tuesday, elevated crude oil prices, persistent foreign institutional investor selling, and uncertainty surrounding US inflation data continue to influence market sentiment.
GIFT Nifty was trading around 22,764 at 7:50 AM IST, indicating a relatively muted start for Indian benchmark indices. Asian markets showed signs of recovery, while Wall Street ended the previous session marginally lower. Investors are now assessing whether Tuesday’s domestic rally can sustain its momentum amid global economic and geopolitical uncertainties.
GIFT Nifty Today: Early Indicators Point to a Cautious Start
GIFT Nifty futures traded near 22,764 during Wednesday’s early morning session, compared with the Nifty 50’s previous closing level of 22,721.95. Although the futures level remained above the domestic index’s previous close, the movement relative to the futures contract’s reference level indicated a weak opening bias.
The cautious indication follows Tuesday’s strong recovery, when the Nifty 50 gained 358.60 points, or 1.60%, to close at 22,721.95. The BSE Sensex advanced 1,109.10 points, or 1.54%, to settle at 73,033.78.
The recovery was primarily supported by information technology stocks after better-than-expected quarterly earnings from HCL Technologies. Positive remarks from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding the government’s willingness to consider stakeholder views on long-term capital gains taxation and securities transaction tax also supported investor sentiment. However, no formal tax changes have been announced.
US Stock Market: Wall Street Ends Lower Ahead of Inflation Data
US equity markets ended Tuesday’s trading session with modest losses as investors assessed mixed corporate earnings and awaited the September Consumer Price Index report.
The S&P 500 declined 0.02% to close at 7,805.45, while the Nasdaq Composite slipped 0.15% to 27,204.38. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.35% to 51,670.10.

Banking stocks faced pressure following mixed quarterly results, while technology shares remained sensitive to concerns about valuations and semiconductor industry developments.
Attention has shifted toward the US inflation report scheduled for Wednesday, October 14. Economists expect headline consumer inflation to reach approximately 3.6% year over year in September, reflecting renewed pressure from energy prices.
The inflation data could influence expectations for the Federal Reserve’s next monetary policy decision, particularly as investors assess the possibility of further interest-rate increases.
Asian Markets Recover as Semiconductor Stocks Rebound
Asian equity markets showed moderate gains on Wednesday morning, supported by a recovery in semiconductor and artificial intelligence-related stocks.
The MSCI Asia-Pacific index excluding Japan advanced approximately 0.5%, while South Korea’s Kospi gained around 1.8%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose approximately 0.2% during early trading.
Major semiconductor companies, including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, gained more than 2%, recovering from the previous session’s technology-sector weakness.
Despite the recovery, investors remained cautious about elevated energy prices and upcoming economic data from the United States and China. Chinese inflation figures were also in focus as markets assessed the strength of domestic demand in the world’s second-largest economy.
Crude Oil Prices: Brent Near $107 Raises Concerns for India
Crude oil remains one of the most significant external risks facing Indian equities.

Brent crude traded around $106.60 per barrel during Wednesday’s Asian session, while US West Texas Intermediate crude rose approximately 0.8% to $94.96 per barrel.
Oil prices remained elevated amid concerns over Middle Eastern energy supplies following attacks involving Yemen’s Houthi movement and Saudi Arabia. Uncertainty surrounding regional shipping routes and production infrastructure continued to support energy prices.
For India, which depends heavily on imported crude oil, sustained high energy prices could increase import costs, contribute to inflationary pressure, and affect the country’s external balance.
Higher crude prices may also influence operating costs across aviation, chemicals, paints, logistics, and other energy-sensitive industries.

FII and DII Activity: Foreign Investors Extend Selling Streak
Foreign institutional investors continued reducing their exposure to Indian equities on Tuesday, extending their net-selling streak to 13 consecutive sessions.
According to provisional NSE figures, foreign portfolio investors sold equities worth approximately ₹1,305 crore on October 13, while domestic institutional investors purchased shares worth approximately ₹2,439 crore.
Domestic institutional buying has helped offset part of the selling pressure from overseas investors, although persistent foreign outflows remain an important consideration for market stability.
The Indian rupee was quoted around ₹95.28 per US dollar in Wednesday’s early market reporting. The US Dollar Index stood near 102.17, while the benchmark 10-year US Treasury yield hovered around 5.22%.

Elevated US bond yields and currency movements can influence international capital flows into emerging markets, including India.
Gold Prices and Global Commodity Trends
Gold prices remained under pressure after declining over the previous two sessions. Spot gold traded near $4,155 per ounce as investors considered the possibility of additional monetary tightening by the Federal Reserve.
New York Federal Reserve President John Williams indicated that another interest-rate increase could be necessary this year to address inflation, although he did not anticipate further increases in 2027.
Higher interest rates and elevated Treasury yields can reduce the relative appeal of non-interest-bearing assets such as gold. Nevertheless, geopolitical uncertainty continues to influence demand for defensive assets.
Corporate Earnings and Stocks in Focus Today
Corporate earnings will remain important for domestic market sentiment as companies report their September-quarter financial results.
Tata Elxsi reported higher quarterly profit supported by its transportation and media businesses. Transformers and Rectifiers India reported profit growth exceeding 100% year over year, while Anand Rathi Share and Stock Brokers recorded a strong sequential improvement in profitability.
Bharat Electronics announced orders worth approximately ₹533 crore received since September 17. Wipro stated that it does not anticipate a material business impact from the US PERM suspension, while Zydus Lifesciences disclosed five observations following a US FDA inspection of its Ahmedabad manufacturing facility.
Investors will also monitor upcoming IT earnings, including Tech Mahindra’s scheduled results, for further indications of demand trends and corporate profitability.

Key Factors That Could Influence Today’s Market
The Indian market enters Wednesday’s session following a significant domestic recovery but faces several competing influences. Improving IT earnings and domestic institutional buying offer support, while rising crude oil prices, foreign portfolio outflows, and high global bond yields remain sources of uncertainty.
The direction of Asian markets, movements in the rupee, developments in the Middle East, and the upcoming US inflation report are likely to remain important indicators of broader market sentiment.
Whether the Nifty 50 can sustain its recovery above 22,700 will depend partly on the strength of domestic participation and the response of global financial markets to these developments.
