S&P 500 today is the question US investors carry into Monday, October 12, after Wall Street closed a record-setting week on a firm note. On Friday, October 9, the index rose 0.6% to 7,811.54, finishing just short of the all-time high it set three days earlier. The figures below are Friday closing levels, not live Monday prices.

Europe, Asia and the UK
European shares rose on Friday, while Asian markets finished mixed. In London, the FTSE 100 gained about 1.1% to roughly 10,550 points, according to market-data feeds. The moves show how global risk appetite supported equities even as energy prices stayed high.
Bond yields and oil stay in focus
The US 10-year Treasury yield climbed to 5.24% on Friday after swinging through the session. Brent crude also rose after erasing an early drop. Readers following markets often watch both closely, because higher yields can pressure equity valuations and elevated oil can keep inflation concerns alive. US stocks trade on Monday, October 12, for Columbus Day, but the bond market is closed, so yield moves will be limited until Tuesday.
What US markets track this week
The week is light on data at the start and heavier later. Federal Reserve speakers begin with Cleveland Fed’s Beth Hammack on Monday. The big banks open third-quarter earnings on Tuesday, October 13, with JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and Wells Fargo reporting before the open.

Why it matters for Indian readers
A firm Wall Street close and a 5.24% US yield both feed into foreign investor flows and the rupee, which closed near 96.7 per dollar on October 9. Indian markets reopen on Monday with those global cues in view.
