Sensex Nifty Closing Today: IT Stocks Lift Nifty to 22,722 (October 13, 2026)

Sensex Nifty closing today: Indian equity benchmarks ended sharply higher on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, as a powerful rally in information technology shares drove a broad rebound. The Sensex rose 1,109.10 points, or 1.54%, to 73,033.78, while the Nifty 50 gained 358.60 points, or 1.60%, to 22,721.95. The move recovered the ground lost in the previous session, which had ended in the red, as covered in our Sensex Nifty closing report for 12 October.

Sensex Nifty closing today: IT stocks lead the rebound

Technology was the standout theme. The Nifty IT index jumped about 5.2%, easily the best-performing sector. HCL Technologies was the top Nifty 50 gainer, rising 7.94% to ₹1,320.10 after its September-quarter net profit grew 21.2% year on year and beat expectations, even though the company kept a cautious full-year revenue outlook.

TCS gained 6.79% to ₹2,269.30, Tech Mahindra added 4.62% and Infosys rose 4.03%. Shriram Finance climbed 6.11%, while Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Finance, Trent and Adani Enterprises each gained between roughly 2.5% and 3.1%.

Sector and broader market moves

Beyond IT, the Nifty Metal, PSU Bank, Auto, Consumer Durables and Realty indices each gained about 1%. Energy and pharma were the only sectoral indices to end lower. The Nifty Midcap index rose about 1%, while the Nifty Smallcap index ended only marginally higher.

Market breadth was positive, with 2,303 stocks advancing against 1,711 declining on the NSE. Among the few Nifty 50 laggards were Kotak Mahindra Bank, which fell 0.99%, Eternal, Max Healthcare and Maruti Suzuki, all with modest declines.

FII and DII flows, inflation and crude oil

Foreign institutional investors sold Indian shares for a twelfth consecutive session on Monday, taking October outflows to roughly $4.9 billion. Exchange data showed FIIs as net sellers of about ₹1,708 crore on Monday, while domestic institutions bought about ₹3,045 crore. Provisional flow data for Tuesday was not yet confirmed at the time of writing.

India’s retail inflation rose to 5.54% in September from 4.83% in August, above expectations and close to the Reserve Bank of India’s 6% upper tolerance limit. Food inflation was 7.74%. Crude oil eased from Monday’s sharp rally but stayed elevated. December Brent futures were near $104.4 a barrel and WTI near $91.8 in the afternoon, with traders weighing possible supply disruption in the Gulf against expected additional Russian diesel supply. On MCX, December gold was near ₹1,49,533 per 10 grams and silver near ₹2,22,800 per kg, both almost flat.

The key question is whether the rebound broadens beyond technology. Smallcaps barely moved on Tuesday, and energy and pharma ended lower, so the strength of the rally was concentrated in a few areas.
