What Does Jio Platforms Do?

Jio Platforms operates a diversified digital technology business, with telecommunications forming its largest commercial foundation. Through Reliance Jio Infocomm and associated digital businesses, the company provides mobile connectivity, broadband internet, enterprise networking and digital services.

The company transformed India’s telecommunications market following the commercial launch of Jio services in 2016. Its strategy of expanding affordable data connectivity accelerated smartphone adoption, increased internet usage and encouraged competition across the telecom industry.

Unlike a conventional telecom operator focused exclusively on voice and data services, Jio Platforms has expanded into digital infrastructure and technology-enabled services. Its ecosystem includes wireless connectivity, fixed broadband, digital entertainment, enterprise technology, cloud solutions and emerging artificial intelligence applications.

This combination gives the company exposure to both consumer telecommunications and enterprise digital transformation.

Mobile Telecommunications and 5G Business

Mobile connectivity remains the core of Jio’s business. The company serves hundreds of millions of subscribers across India through its nationwide telecommunications network.

Jio reported approximately 524.4 million customers at the end of FY2026, compared with 488.2 million in FY2025. Its large subscriber base provides recurring revenue from prepaid and postpaid mobile services.

The company has also invested substantially in fifth-generation mobile technology. Its standalone 5G network supports faster connectivity, higher network capacity and applications requiring lower latency.

By June 2026, Jio reported approximately 268.5 million 5G customers, reflecting the rapid adoption of compatible smartphones and higher-speed mobile services.

The company’s financial performance depends partly on average revenue per user, subscriber growth, customer retention and network operating costs. Tariff changes can influence revenue, but pricing decisions must also consider competition and customer affordability.

JioFiber and JioAirFiber

Jio Platforms has expanded beyond mobile services into residential and business broadband.

JioFiber provides fixed broadband connectivity using fibre-optic infrastructure. Its services support home internet, entertainment, remote work and other applications requiring reliable high-speed connections.

JioAirFiber uses fixed wireless access technology to provide broadband connectivity over wireless networks. This can extend internet services to locations where installing physical fibre connections is difficult, expensive or time-consuming.

The expansion of broadband services allows Jio to address household internet demand and potentially increase revenue from customers using multiple services within its ecosystem.

However, broadband infrastructure requires ongoing investment in network capacity, customer equipment, installation and technical support.

Digital Services, Cloud and Artificial Intelligence

Jio Platforms has positioned itself as a broader digital technology business rather than only a telecommunications provider.

Its digital ecosystem includes entertainment services, consumer applications, enterprise connectivity and cloud-related technology offerings.

Cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence represent potential long-term growth opportunities. Businesses increasingly require computing infrastructure, data storage, networking and technology services to support digital operations.

Jio’s telecommunications network and large customer base may provide opportunities to distribute digital services at scale. However, commercial success in cloud and AI depends on technical capabilities, infrastructure investment, pricing, partnerships and competition.

The company also faces established domestic and international competitors in these markets. Consequently, investors should distinguish between the existing earnings contribution from telecommunications and the longer-term potential of emerging digital businesses.

Global Investors and Shareholding

Reliance Industries is the promoter and controlling shareholder of Jio Platforms. The company also attracted substantial international investment during its 2020 fundraising programme.

Major investors include Meta and Google, alongside several global private equity and institutional investment firms.

Meta invested approximately ₹43,574 crore for a 9.99% stake, while Google invested approximately ₹33,737 crore for a 7.73% stake during the earlier investment programme.

These investments helped establish Jio Platforms as a major digital infrastructure business and provided capital for its expansion.

However, the participation of prominent international investors should not be interpreted as a guarantee of future stock market returns. Public market valuation depends on earnings, cash generation, business growth and the price investors are willing to pay.

Jio Platforms Financial Performance

Jio Platforms reported growth in revenue, operating earnings and net profit during FY2026, supported by its expanding subscriber base, increasing data consumption and digital connectivity services.

Financial MetricFY2025FY2026
Revenue from Operations₹1,28,218.4 crore₹1,46,885.3 crore
EBITDA₹64,170 crore₹76,255.4 crore
Profit After Tax₹26,109 crore₹30,049.1 crore
Customer Base488.2 million524.4 million

Revenue from operations increased approximately 14.6% in FY2026, while EBITDA grew around 18.8%. Profit after tax increased approximately 15.1%, indicating that earnings expanded alongside the company’s revenue base.

The EBITDA margin improved from approximately 50% in FY2025 to 51.9% in FY2026. The net profit margin remained around 20.5%, reflecting the scale of the company’s established connectivity operations.

These results distinguish Jio Platforms from many technology companies entering the stock market before achieving consistent profitability. However, telecommunications remains a capital-intensive industry, and investors must consider depreciation, financing costs, capital expenditure and free cash flow alongside reported earnings.

IPO Valuation and Financial Ratios

At the upper price band of ₹1,119 per share, Jio Platforms is targeting an estimated equity valuation of approximately ₹10.3 lakh crore.

Based on FY2026 profit after tax of approximately ₹30,049 crore, the implied price-to-earnings ratio is around 34 times annual earnings.

This valuation reflects expectations surrounding the company’s telecommunications market position, subscriber base, broadband expansion and future digital services opportunities.

However, valuation comparisons require care. Telecom businesses can have substantially different debt levels, capital expenditure requirements, network ownership structures and accounting policies.

A company with strong EBITDA may still require considerable cash investment to maintain and expand its infrastructure. Therefore, the price-to-earnings ratio should be considered alongside enterprise value, operating cash flow, net debt and future capital expenditure.

IPO Structure and Use of Proceeds

The Jio Platforms IPO comprises a fresh issue of up to 27 crore equity shares. At the upper price band, the issue could raise approximately ₹30,213 crore.

There is no Offer for Sale component, meaning existing shareholders are not selling shares through the IPO structure.

The proceeds are expected to support repayment or prepayment of certain borrowings associated with the company’s telecommunications operations and general corporate purposes, subject to the detailed allocation in the final offer documents.

Reducing borrowings could improve the company’s financial flexibility and lower future interest expenses. This may be relevant as Jio continues investing in network infrastructure, broadband expansion and technology services.

However, investors should evaluate the exact use-of-proceeds allocation and the company’s remaining financial obligations rather than assuming that the entire IPO amount will be available for business expansion.

Reliance Industries Shareholder Quota

An important feature of the Jio Platforms IPO is the reservation for eligible shareholders of Reliance Industries Limited.

The offering includes a shareholder reservation of up to ₹2,500 crore, alongside an employee reservation of up to ₹500 crore.

The shareholder category is intended for eligible individual investors and Hindu Undivided Families holding Reliance Industries equity shares under the applicable conditions.

Holding Reliance Industries shares does not guarantee allotment. Shares will be allocated according to the applicable subscription and allotment rules.

Growth Opportunities

Jio Platforms has several potential growth opportunities across telecommunications and digital infrastructure.

Increasing 5G adoption could support greater network usage and demand for higher-value connectivity services. Expansion in fixed broadband may allow the company to serve more households and businesses.

Enterprise connectivity, cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence could provide additional revenue opportunities as organisations invest in digital transformation.

Jio’s large customer base may also help distribute new digital products and services, although customer reach alone does not guarantee commercial success.

The company’s ability to convert these opportunities into earnings will depend on pricing, execution, technology investment, customer adoption and competitive conditions.

Key Risks

One of the principal risks is the capital-intensive nature of telecommunications. Building and maintaining nationwide mobile and broadband networks requires substantial expenditure on infrastructure, equipment, spectrum and technology.

Competition from established telecom operators can influence tariffs, customer acquisition costs and subscriber retention.

Regulatory risk is another major consideration. Telecommunications companies operate under government licensing, spectrum allocation and compliance requirements. Changes in regulations, fees or data protection rules could affect business operations.

Jio Platforms also faces technology risks. Network technologies evolve rapidly, requiring continuous investment to maintain service quality and competitiveness.

Its expansion into cloud, artificial intelligence and other digital services introduces additional competition and execution challenges.

Finally, the IPO valuation is substantial. Even a profitable and growing company can deliver disappointing stock market returns if its future earnings do not justify the valuation paid by investors.

Jio Platforms IPO GMP

As of October 15, 2026, IPO market reporting indicated an unofficial grey market premium of approximately ₹218 per share.

Against the upper price band of ₹1,119, this implies an indicative listing price of ₹1,337, representing a premium of approximately 19.5%.

However, GMP is not an official stock exchange quotation. Grey market activity is unregulated, quotations can vary between sources, and premiums may change considerably before listing.

The actual listing price will depend on market conditions, investor demand, subscription activity and price discovery on the stock exchanges.
