Tuesday, November 3, 2026 | Indian Stock Market Closing Report
Indian stock markets extended their rally on Tuesday, with the Sensex climbing more than 1,200 points and the Nifty 50 finishing above 23,800. Both benchmark indices closed at their highest levels of the session, marking another strong day for Indian equities as buying gathered pace towards the closing bell.
The BSE Sensex settled at 76,917.85, gaining 1,225.07 points or 1.62%. The Nifty 50 advanced 370.05 points, or 1.58%, to close at 23,810.85. The benchmarks have now gained nearly 5% over four consecutive sessions, taking them to their highest levels in approximately two months.
Tuesday’s advance was supported by a broad selection of heavyweight stocks, particularly in banking, consumer goods and financial services. HDFC Bank, Nestle India, Asian Paints and Bharti Airtel recorded strong gains, while Power Grid, State Bank of India and ONGC finished among the day’s laggards. The wider market also participated, although some individual stocks continued to face selling pressure.
Indian Stock Market Closing Indices, November 3, 2026
| Index | Closing level | Change |
|---|---|---|
| BSE Sensex | 76,917.85 | +1,225.07 (+1.62%) |
| Nifty 50 | 23,810.85 | +370.05 (+1.58%) |
| Nifty Bank | 55,540.05 | +0.98% |
| Nifty Midcap 100 | 58,596.25 | +612.85 (+1.06%) |
The Nifty’s finish at 23,810.85 was particularly significant because the index maintained its advance through the final stretch of trading. The Sensex followed a similar pattern, closing at its intraday high rather than surrendering gains towards the end of the session.
Banking stocks made an important contribution to the rally. HDFC Bank advanced 3.64%, ICICI Bank gained 2.67%, and Axis Bank rose 1.96%. Their combined strength helped support the benchmark indices, even as State Bank of India ended lower.
Midcap stocks also recorded a healthy advance, with the Nifty Midcap 100 rising more than 1%. The broader participation gave the rally a stronger foundation than a session driven entirely by a small number of index heavyweights.
Market Breadth: Advancing Stocks Outnumber Decliners
Tuesday’s market breadth remained positive, with more than half of the stocks traded on the NSE closing higher. The exchange recorded 2,127 advancing stocks against 1,477 declines, while 109 securities finished unchanged.
| Market breadth | Number of stocks |
|---|---|
| Stocks traded on NSE | 3,713 |
| Advancing stocks | 2,127 |
| Declining stocks | 1,477 |
| Unchanged stocks | 109 |
| Stocks at 52-week highs | 57 |
| Stocks at 52-week lows | 94 |
The advance-decline figures showed that buying was spread across a sizeable portion of the market. However, the number of stocks touching fresh 52-week lows exceeded those reaching new highs, indicating that the recovery was not equally strong across all listed companies.
This distinction was visible in the broader market, where several midcap shares delivered substantial gains while pockets of weakness persisted. The benchmark rally was convincing, but it did not eliminate selling pressure in every segment.
Top 10 Nifty 50 Gainers Today
BSE Limited emerged as Tuesday’s biggest Nifty 50 gainer, rising 5.03% to ₹3,665.70. Nestle India followed with a 4.47% advance, while Tata Consumer Products gained 4.29%. Asian Paints and Bharti Airtel also recorded strong performances.
Consumer-oriented companies occupied several positions among the leading gainers. Banking stocks contributed to the rally as well, with HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank delivering substantial advances.
| Stock | Closing price | Gain |
|---|---|---|
| BSE Limited | ₹3,665.70 | +5.03% |
| Nestle India | ₹1,248.40 | +4.47% |
| Tata Consumer Products | ₹1,073.00 | +4.29% |
| Asian Paints | ₹2,437.80 | +3.99% |
| Bharti Airtel | ₹2,065.00 | +3.77% |
| HDFC Bank | ₹725.50 | +3.64% |
| Hindustan Unilever | ₹1,962.80 | +3.40% |
| Eicher Motors | ₹7,440.00 | +3.15% |
| ITC | ₹273.90 | +2.82% |
| UltraTech Cement | ₹11,700.00 | +2.75% |
The gainers list reflected a noticeable preference for consumer businesses, private-sector banks and selected manufacturing companies. The strong performance of several large-cap stocks helped the Nifty retain its gains until the close.
Top Nifty 50 Losers Today
Power Grid Corporation was the biggest loser in the Nifty 50 on Tuesday, declining 3.04% to ₹259.55. State Bank of India followed with a 1.70% fall, while ONGC dropped 1.13%. Their losses contrasted sharply with the broader market’s strong advance.
Adani Enterprises and Tata Steel also ended lower. Infosys remained under pressure, declining 1.11%, while NTPC and Trent recorded smaller losses.
| Stock | Closing price | Loss |
|---|---|---|
| Power Grid Corporation | ₹259.55 | -3.04% |
| State Bank of India | ₹970.25 | -1.70% |
| ONGC | ₹232.17 | -1.13% |
| Infosys | ₹1,148.10 | -1.11% |
| Adani Enterprises | ₹2,593.30 | -0.84% |
| Tata Steel | ₹176.50 | -0.49% |
| NTPC | ₹321.55 | -0.45% |
| Trent | ₹3,036.50 | -0.32% |
| Apollo Hospitals | ₹8,440.00 | -0.22% |
| TCS | ₹2,499.10 | -0.10% |
The weakness in Power Grid, ONGC and NTPC showed that energy-related stocks did not participate uniformly in the rally. Technology stocks also remained relatively subdued, with Infosys and TCS ending in negative territory despite the strong performance of the benchmark indices.

Tuesday’s Closing Picture: Banking and FMCG Lead, Rupee Strengthens
The strongest feature of Tuesday’s session was the performance of consumer goods and private-sector banking stocks. The Nifty FMCG index jumped 3.65%, making it the day’s leading sectoral performer. Nifty Realty gained 2.33%, while Nifty Private Bank advanced 1.98% and Nifty Auto rose 1.71%.
The weakness was concentrated in a smaller group of sectors. Nifty PSU Bank declined 1.27%, while Nifty Metal slipped 0.14%. The difference between private-sector banking gains and public-sector banking losses was particularly striking.
| Market indicator | Closing level or performance |
|---|---|
| Nifty FMCG | +3.65% |
| Nifty Realty | +2.33% |
| Nifty Private Bank | +1.98% |
| Nifty Auto | +1.71% |
| Nifty PSU Bank | -1.27% |
| Nifty Metal | -0.14% |
| Indian rupee | ₹94.74 per US dollar |
| Brent crude | Around $105 to $106 per barrel |
| Japan Nikkei 225 | -0.33% |
| South Korea KOSPI | -3.72% |
| China Shanghai Composite | -0.83% |
| Hong Kong Hang Seng | +0.39% |
The rupee strengthened modestly against the US dollar, finishing near 94.74 compared with its previous close of 94.90. The currency had gained more ground earlier in the session but surrendered part of that improvement as crude oil prices recovered from their recent lows.
Brent crude traded around $105 to $106 per barrel after a sharp decline in the preceding session. The retreat from higher oil prices offered some relief to Indian financial markets, although renewed volatility in energy prices remained a concern.
Global equity markets presented a mixed picture. Japan’s Nikkei, South Korea’s KOSPI and China’s Shanghai Composite finished lower, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng managed a modest gain. Indian benchmarks nevertheless delivered strong advances, outperforming several major Asian markets.
The Nifty’s close above 23,800 and the Sensex’s finish near 77,000 marked another important session in the market’s recovery. Banking and consumer stocks provided much of the momentum, but positive market breadth and gains in midcap and smallcap indices showed that the advance extended beyond the benchmark heavyweights.
At the same time, the larger number of stocks reaching fresh 52-week lows than highs suggested that some sections of the market remained under pressure. Tuesday’s closing figures reflected a strong recovery in the major indices, supported by broad participation but accompanied by selective weakness in individual stocks.
