Monday, November 2, 2026 | Indian Stock Market Closing Report
Indian equities began November with a powerful rally on Monday, pushing the Sensex to its highest closing level in nearly two months and lifting the Nifty 50 comfortably above 23,400. Unlike Friday’s uneven session, the advance extended beyond a handful of heavyweight stocks, with most Nifty constituents and a majority of shares across the wider market finishing higher.
The BSE Sensex closed at 75,692.78, gaining 1,233.25 points or 1.66%. The Nifty 50 advanced 387.70 points, or 1.68%, to settle at 23,440.80. The strength of the closing numbers was matched by positive market breadth, although information technology and pharmaceutical shares remained under pressure.
Reliance Industries was the standout performer, recording a double-digit percentage gain. Metal stocks also finished strongly, while financial stocks delivered a mixed performance.
Indian Stock Market Closing Indices, November 2, 2026
| Index | Closing level | Change |
|---|---|---|
| BSE Sensex | 75,692.78 | +1.66% |
| Nifty 50 | 23,440.80 | +1.68% |
The Nifty opened at 23,222.30 and moved higher through the session, eventually finishing at 23,440.80. Its closing level represented a substantial recovery from the previous session and showed that buyers remained active into the final stretch of trading.
The Sensex’s advance was similarly convincing. Its gain of more than 1,200 points placed it among the stronger daily performances of recent weeks.
The broader market also participated. The Nifty Midcap index rose approximately 1%, while the smallcap index gained around 0.7%. These advances were smaller than those recorded by the frontline benchmarks, but they showed that the day’s buying was not confined to the largest companies.
Market Breadth Shows Stronger Participation
Market breadth was firmly positive on Monday, reversing the weakness seen in the previous session. On the NSE, advancing shares comfortably outnumbered declining shares, suggesting that the improvement extended across a substantial portion of the listed market.

| Market breadth | Number of stocks |
|---|---|
| Advancing stocks | 2,668 |
| Declining stocks | 1,469 |
| Unchanged stocks | 162 |
| Nifty 50 gainers | 38 |
| Nifty 50 losers | 12 |
The figures show that roughly two stocks advanced for every stock that declined. Within the Nifty 50, more than three-quarters of the constituents ended in positive territory.
That distinction matters because a sharp rise in a benchmark can sometimes be driven by just one or two large companies. Monday’s session had a significant contribution from Reliance Industries, but the positive advance-decline figures showed considerably wider participation.
Top 10 Nifty 50 Gainers Today
Reliance Industries dominated Monday’s gainers list, closing at ₹1,300 after an 11.60% jump. Tata Steel and JSW Steel followed, recording gains of more than 5% each. Shriram Finance and Coal India also rose sharply, placing them among the session’s five strongest Nifty performers.
The gains were not limited to one industry. Energy, metals, financial services and healthcare companies all featured among the leading stocks, reflecting the wider improvement in market participation.

Top Nifty 50 Losers Today
Infosys was the weakest Nifty 50 stock on Monday, declining 2.03% to ₹1,161. The fall stood out against the strong performance of the benchmark index and reflected the relatively subdued trading in information technology shares.
ICICI Bank, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Axis Bank were also among the leading decliners. The presence of several private-sector banks on the losing side showed that the day’s rally did not lift every heavyweight stock.
| Stock | Closing price | Loss |
|---|---|---|
| Infosys | ₹1,161.00 | -2.03% |
| ICICI Bank | ₹1,387.40 | -0.76% |
| Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories | ₹1,342.00 | -0.74% |
Monday’s Closing Picture
Monday’s closing session marked a decisive improvement in the Indian equity market. The Nifty’s finish above 23,400 and the Sensex’s advance beyond 75,600 were supported by strong gains in several large-cap stocks, particularly Reliance Industries and leading metal companies.
The broader market also finished higher, although midcap and smallcap gains were more modest than those of the benchmarks. Market breadth was positive, and most Nifty 50 constituents participated in the advance.

The closing figures showed a market with substantially stronger buying interest than in the previous session, even as selective weakness remained visible in technology, pharmaceuticals and private-sector banking stocks.
