Indian Stock Market Weekly Wrap-Up: Nifty Reclaims 25,000, Sensex Surges as Foreign Investors Return

The Indian stock market ended the first trading week of November with a powerful recovery, as sustained buying pushed the Nifty 50 above the psychologically important 25,000 mark for the first time since February 27, 2026. Friday’s sharp rally capped seven consecutive gaining sessions, signalling a significant improvement in investor sentiment after months of uncertainty.

The Sensex closed Friday at 81,028.02, gaining 1,718.01 points or 2.17%, while the Nifty 50 advanced 493.75 points or 2.01% to finish at 25,030.35. The rally extended beyond heavyweight stocks, with midcap and smallcap shares also attracting renewed interest.

Foreign institutional investors emerged as an important force behind the recovery, while domestic institutional investors used the strength to reduce their exposure. The contrast in institutional flows became one of the defining features of the week.

Sensex and Nifty End the Week on a Strong Note

The most important development was the Nifty’s return above 25,000. The index had struggled to regain this level for several months, making Friday’s close an important psychological milestone.

The seven-session winning streak suggests that buying interest was sustained rather than limited to a single session. Friday’s 2.01% Nifty gain and 2.17% Sensex advance provided a strong finish to the week.

Banking stocks played an important role in supporting the recovery. The Nifty Bank closed Friday at 59,086, reinforcing the improvement in sentiment across financial stocks.

However, the strength of the next move will depend on whether the Nifty can establish 25,000 as a sustainable support area. A brief move above a major level is encouraging, but continued buying and broader participation are necessary to confirm the durability of a recovery.

Foreign Investors Return With Strong Buying

Institutional investment flows were among the biggest stories of the week.

Investor categoryWeekly net activity
Foreign Institutional Investors (FII)+₹45,960 crore
Domestic Institutional Investors (DII)-₹24,197 crore
Combined net flow+₹21,763 crore

Foreign investors purchased approximately ₹45,960 crore worth of Indian equities during the week, providing substantial support to market sentiment.

Domestic institutional investors, meanwhile, recorded net selling of approximately ₹24,197 crore. This divergence suggests that foreign investors were rebuilding exposure while domestic institutions were reducing holdings into the recovery.

The combined institutional net inflow was approximately ₹21,763 crore.

The sustainability of foreign buying will be important during the coming week. If overseas investors continue accumulating Indian equities, it could provide additional support to large-cap stocks. A sudden reversal in flows, however, could increase volatility.

Midcap and Smallcap Stocks Join the Recovery

The week’s rally was not restricted to the benchmark indices.

The Nifty Midcap 100 gained approximately 5.8%, significantly outperforming the broader market, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 advanced around 2.8%.

The stronger midcap performance suggests investors were willing to move beyond established large-cap companies in search of opportunities. Smallcap participation was positive but comparatively restrained.

This difference matters because a sustainable market recovery generally benefits from broader participation. Investors will now watch whether the improvement continues across sectors or becomes concentrated in a limited number of stocks.

India VIX Signals That Volatility Remains Important

Despite the strong recovery, the India VIX stood at 17.55.

This level indicates that investors continue to price in meaningful short-term market fluctuations. A rising market does not necessarily mean volatility has disappeared, particularly after a sharp recovery.

For traders, the combination of stronger prices and elevated volatility can produce larger intraday movements in both directions. The coming week’s market behaviour will help determine whether sentiment is stabilizing or whether the rally remains vulnerable to sudden reversals.

Crude Oil and Global Developments Remain Key Risks

Brent crude traded around $97.75 per barrel, keeping energy costs firmly in focus.

India’s dependence on imported crude makes oil prices important for inflation, the rupee and corporate profitability. Sustained increases in crude can pressure fuel-intensive businesses, while a decline could provide relief to companies facing higher operating costs.

Global interest-rate expectations, US economic developments and movements in international equity markets will also influence sentiment.

Although domestic buying momentum improved during the week, external developments could still affect foreign institutional flows and currency movements.

Indian Stock Market Week Ahead: November 9–13, 2026

The coming week will test whether the Nifty can hold above 25,000 following its sharp recovery. After an 8.58% weekly advance, some profit-booking would not be surprising, particularly in stocks that have risen quickly.

The Sensex gained approximately 8.82% during the week, making it one of the strongest weekly recoveries of the year. Investors will now look for consolidation, sustained foreign buying and continued participation from banking and broader-market stocks.

The trading calendar will be shortened by Diwali celebrations. NSE and BSE will conduct a special Muhurat trading session on Sunday, November 8, while regular equity trading will remain closed on Tuesday, November 10, for Diwali-Balipratipada.

Corporate earnings, India’s October retail inflation figures scheduled for November 12, and important US inflation data will be among the major triggers. Investors will also monitor RBI-related developments, crude oil prices, the rupee and foreign institutional flows.

For the Nifty, the 25,000 level is the immediate psychological reference. Holding above it could strengthen confidence in the recovery, while a sustained move below it may encourage short-term profit-booking. The market’s response to these levels will matter more than predictions based solely on the previous week’s rally.

The larger question is whether foreign institutional buying can continue after such a strong inflow. If buying remains broad-based, the market could build on its recovery. If foreign flows weaken while domestic institutions continue selling, volatility may return.

Weekly Market Summary

The November 2–6 trading week marked a significant turnaround for Indian equities. The Nifty gained 8.58%, the Sensex rose 8.82%, and the broader market participated in the recovery.

Foreign institutional buying of nearly ₹46,000 crore provided a major boost, even as domestic institutions booked profits. Falling crude prices and improving global sentiment also helped restore confidence.

The coming week will show whether the rally can develop into a more durable upward trend or whether the market needs time to consolidate after its rapid advance.
