What the charges mean
Plain-language explanations. Rates change, so always check the figures in the explorer or with your provider.
Stock market
Brokerage
The fee your broker charges for executing a trade. Plans differ: some charge a flat amount per order, some a percentage of the trade value, and some charge nothing for delivery trades.
STT (Securities Transaction Tax)
A tax charged by the government on the value of securities bought or sold on a recognised exchange. The rate depends on the type of trade, such as delivery or intraday, and which side it applies to.
Exchange transaction charges
A fee the exchange charges on traded turnover. Your broker collects it and shows it in your contract note.
SEBI turnover fee
A small regulatory fee on traded turnover, collected through your broker.
GST on trading
GST is charged on brokerage and on certain service fees such as exchange and regulatory charges. It is not charged on the trade value itself.
Stamp duty
A duty applied to the buy side of a trade. It is collected by the broker and listed separately in the contract note.
DP charges
A fee charged by the depository participant when shares are debited from your demat account on a delivery sell.
Banking
Account maintenance and minimum balance
Some accounts charge a fee or penalty if the average balance falls below the required level. Rules differ by account type and bank.
ATM and debit card charges
Banks usually allow a number of free ATM transactions each month and may charge for more, plus an annual or issuance fee on some debit cards.
Transfer and service charges
Fees that may apply to NEFT, RTGS or IMPS transfers, cheque books, statements and other services, depending on the bank and the channel.
Credit cards
Interest (finance charges)
Interest applies when you do not pay the full statement amount by the due date. It is usually quoted per month and is calculated on your outstanding balance.
Annual fee
A yearly fee for holding the card. Many issuers waive it if you spend above a set amount in the year.
Late payment and cash withdrawal fees
A late payment fee applies if the minimum due is missed. A cash withdrawal fee, and often immediate interest, applies when you take cash against the card.
Forex markup
An extra percentage added on transactions made in a foreign currency or processed abroad.
Mutual funds
Expense ratio
The yearly cost of running a fund, shown as a percentage of your investment. It is deducted from the fund's returns, so a lower ratio leaves more for you over time.
Exit load
A fee charged if you redeem units within a stated period. The period and percentage are set by each scheme.
Taxes on mutual funds
Gains are taxed based on the type of fund and how long you held it. Check the current rules for your fund type before you redeem.
Taxes and payments
GST
A tax on the supply of goods and services. Charges levied by banks, brokers and card issuers usually attract GST on top of the fee.
TDS
Tax deducted at source: tax withheld by the payer, such as a bank on interest above a limit, and credited against your tax liability.
Capital gains tax
Tax on the profit from selling assets such as shares or mutual fund units. The rate depends on the asset and the holding period.
Payment and convenience fees
Some payment methods, such as certain card or wallet payments, add a fee for the convenience of paying that way.
Frequently asked questions
Are the charges on this page official?
Each record links to its official source and shows when it was last verified. Records are entered only after checking that source. Rates change, so confirm with your provider before you act.
Why are some sections empty?
We publish a charge only after verifying it from an official source. If a section is empty, no verified record has been added yet. The calculators still work with the rates you enter.
Do the calculators use live rates?
No. You enter the rates from your contract note, loan sheet or statement. Where a verified record exists, the matching rate is pre-filled and labelled with its verified date.
How are charges kept up to date?
Records are reviewed by hand. Any record that has not been re-verified for 90 days is automatically marked Under review. We do not scrape exchange, bank or broker websites.
Is this financial advice?
No. This page is general information and calculation tools, not investment, tax or legal advice.
Onetrader provides this information for general education. Fees, taxes and rules change and differ by provider, so check the latest official figures before you decide.
