AMD delivered record quarterly revenue and sharply higher earnings as demand for server processors and AI accelerators outweighed weakness in gaming. The results released after Tuesday’s US close beat revenue and adjusted earnings expectations, while the next-quarter sales forecast pointed to faster growth.
Revenue and earnings beat expectations
The earnings improvement was broader than the headline sales increase. Both reported and adjusted profit grew faster than revenue, showing that additional sales generated substantial operating income after covering the company’s expanding expense base.
The adjusted EPS comparison provides the clearest measure of the earnings beat. Reported profit also increased strongly against the corresponding quarter last year.
| Measure | Reported | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Quarterly revenue | $13.377 billion | $9.246 billion year-ago; up 45% |
| Revenue versus estimate | $13.377 billion | $13.06 billion consensus |
| GAAP net income | $2.428 billion | $1.243 billion year-ago; up 95% |
| GAAP diluted EPS | $1.46 | $0.75 year-ago; up 95% |
| Non-GAAP net income | $3.471 billion | $1.965 billion year-ago; up 77%; approximately $3.2 billion estimated |
| Non-GAAP diluted EPS | $2.09 | $1.94 estimated; $1.20 year-ago |
The net-income and EPS estimates above relate to the adjusted measures.
Operating margins show the benefit of scale
AMD’s operating performance strengthened as revenue increased faster than operating expenses. That matters because the company is funding product development while expanding the business: stronger sales are translating into higher operating profitability.
The distinction between GAAP and adjusted earnings remains material. AMD’s adjustments include stock-based compensation, amortisation of acquired intangible assets and other specified items.
| Measure | Reported | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| GAAP gross margin | 54% | 52% year-ago |
| Non-GAAP gross margin | 56% | 54% year-ago |
| GAAP operating income | $2.832 billion | $1.270 billion year-ago; up 123% |
| GAAP operating margin | 21% | 14% year-ago |
| Non-GAAP operating income | $3.923 billion | $2.238 billion year-ago; up 75% |
| Non-GAAP operating margin | 29% | 24% year-ago |
Gross margins are rounded as presented in AMD’s quarterly summary.
Data centre growth outweighs gaming weakness
Data Centre was the main engine of the quarter, supported by EPYC server processors and the launch of Instinct AI accelerators. The segment’s operating income grew faster than its revenue, illustrating how strongly its expansion is influencing the group’s earnings.

Client and Gaming told a more uneven story. Higher client-processor sales could not offset lower gaming revenue, while Embedded improved across aerospace and defence, automotive, communications and industrial markets.
| Measure | Reported | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Data Centre revenue | $8.546 billion | $4.341 billion year-ago; up 97% |
| Data Centre operating income | $2.882 billion | $1.074 billion year-ago; up 168% |
| Client and Gaming revenue | $3.722 billion | $4.048 billion year-ago; down 8% |
| Client revenue | Approximately $2.9 billion | Up 7% year-on-year |
| Gaming revenue | $773 million | Down 40% year-on-year |
| Embedded revenue | $1.109 billion | $857 million year-ago; up 29% |
Client and Gaming is a combined reporting segment; its two businesses are shown separately for context.
Cash conversion trails the earnings increase
Cash generation was softer than the income statement. Higher receivables and inventory absorbed cash, making working-capital conversion an important measure as AMD prepares for further growth.
Inventory can support future shipments, but it also ties up funding before customers pay. The next stage of execution therefore involves turning the larger operating base into cash as well as revenue.
| Measure | Reported | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Operating cash flow from continuing operations | $1.202 billion | $1.788 billion year-ago |
| Free cash flow | $554 million | $1.530 billion year-ago |
| Free-cash-flow margin | 4% | 17% year-ago |
| Quarter-end inventory | $11.463 billion | Up 35% sequentially |
Free cash flow deducts capital expenditure from operating cash flow from continuing operations.
Fourth-quarter guidance points to faster sales growth
The revenue outlook exceeded expectations and calls for a substantial increase from the completed quarter. Management expects stronger Data Centre demand as production scales.
The margin forecast deserves equal attention. AMD expects higher revenue alongside a lower adjusted gross margin than in the reported quarter, making product mix and operating-cost discipline important to the earnings outcome.
| Measure | Reported | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Fourth-quarter revenue guidance | Approximately $17 billion, ±3% | $16.23 billion consensus |
| Expected revenue growth at midpoint | Approximately 66% year-on-year | Approximately 27% sequential growth |
| Fourth-quarter non-GAAP gross margin | Approximately 55% | 56% in the reported quarter |
| Fourth-quarter non-GAAP operating expenses | Approximately $3.75 billion | $3.560 billion in the reported quarter |
The margin and expense forecasts are non-GAAP measures.
