Amazon and Intel lead Friday’s US watchlist after their forecasts unsettled investors overnight. The immediate concern is what comes next: how much cash technology companies will spend, how quickly those investments will generate returns and whether demand can keep pace with the capacity being built.
Twilio, Reddit and Sandisk face different versions of that expectations test. Rivian offers a separate company-specific development, with management expressing confidence about an autonomy milestone that would unlock additional funding.
In Simple Words
Strong quarterly results do not automatically lead to a higher share price. Investors also judge the next-quarter forecast, the cash needed to support growth and whether the business is delivering enough to justify their expectations.
Amazon: Cloud growth comes with a heavy spending bill
Amazon enters Friday under pressure as investors weigh rapid cloud growth against the cost of expanding its infrastructure. AWS revenue increased 39.3% from a year earlier, but the company’s spending requirements and holiday-quarter sales forecast drew a more cautious market response.

Amazon maintained its expectation for approximately $220 billion in annual cash capital expenditure. Its fourth-quarter sales forecast of $240 billion to $247 billion also gave investors little reason to overlook the spending burden. The business is growing, but the amount of cash required to support that growth has become a central concern.
That distinction makes Amazon particularly important today. Faster AWS expansion supports the commercial case for building more capacity, while the financing burden raises questions about when shareholders will see the benefit in free cash flow.
Intel: A weaker forecast revives turnaround concerns
Intel’s sharp premarket decline follows a report in which stronger quarterly earnings were overshadowed by the outlook. The company recorded revenue of $16.51 billion and adjusted earnings of $0.52 a share, but forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion.
The pressure centres on the personal-computer market, where elevated memory costs are weighing on demand. That leaves Intel balancing stronger server demand against weakness in an established business that remains important to its overall performance.

For investors assessing the turnaround, the latest report complicates the picture. Progress in execution and manufacturing must ultimately produce consistent sales, margins and cash generation, and the forecast suggests that the recovery will remain uneven.
Twilio: Improving operations meet demanding expectations
Twilio heads into the session after an overnight sell-off despite higher sales, stronger profitability and an upgraded annual outlook. Revenue reached $1.56 billion, organic growth was 16% and adjusted diluted earnings rose to $1.65 a share.
Customer spending trends also improved, with the dollar-based net expansion rate increasing from a year earlier. Free cash flow strengthened alongside earnings, giving the operational improvement more substance than a headline profit beat alone.
Management expects organic revenue growth to moderate in the coming quarter, leaving investors to assess how much of the recent momentum can carry forward. Twilio’s report illustrates how a healthier business can still face a difficult reception when expectations are demanding.

Reddit: Holiday advertising forecasts take priority
Reddit’s holiday-quarter outlook has become the immediate focus after its revenue guidance fell short of market expectations. Management projected revenue of $1 billion to $1.03 billion and adjusted EBITDA of $480 million to $510 million.
Those forecasts overshadowed a quarterly performance that exceeded expectations. The issue is the pace at which Reddit can convert its audience into advertising revenue during an important period for marketing budgets.
The outlook still points to substantial adjusted profitability. However, investors were looking for a stronger sales forecast, making the durability of advertising growth central to Friday’s reassessment of the shares.
Sandisk: Data-centre demand supports further expansion
Sandisk brings a strong operating report into a nervous technology session. Quarterly revenue reached $11.031 billion, while data-centre revenue increased 61% from the preceding quarter, providing the clearest source of momentum.
Management forecast revenue of $12.2 billion to $12.6 billion for the next quarter. The figures indicate continued expansion, although the balance between data-centre, consumer and other demand remains important when assessing how sustainable that growth will be.
Sandisk also announced an eight-for-one stock split. The split changes the share count and price per share, but does not change shareholders’ proportional ownership or the underlying value of the business.
Rivian: R2 demand and conditional funding provide a separate catalyst
Rivian offers a different story from the technology spending debate. Chief executive RJ Scaringe said the company was confident it would meet an autonomy milestone needed to unlock a further $250 million investment from Uber by year-end.
Scaringe also described strong demand for the R2, which led deliveries during its first full production quarter. Rivian’s total quarterly deliveries reached a record 19,248 vehicles.
The funding remains conditional on meeting the milestone. Alongside the production ramp, it gives investors a concrete measure of progress as Rivian works to narrow losses while financing its vehicle and autonomous-driving programmes.
