Between the paneer and the dessert counter, cousin Vikram cornered Arjun with a plate in one hand and a billion-rupee idea in the other. “Uber, but for pickles,” he said. “Just ₹2 lakh and you’re a partner.”
Arjun asked how many customers Vikram had. Vikram said the number was growing and, technically, his mother counted. Arjun asked about revenue. Vikram said revenue was a mindset.
Arjun, who worked in a bank, did not laugh. He asked three plain questions: what does it cost to make one jar, what does it sell for, and what happens if no one buys it for six months. Vikram answered the first two with confidence and the third with a gulab jamun.
They agreed Arjun would invest nothing, but would help Vikram make a one-page plan. Over the next month Vikram sold sixty jars to neighbours and found that the real business was the lime pickle, not the app.
Today the pickle brand has a small stall, a spreadsheet and a loyal customer base. The app is still “coming soon,” a phrase Arjun now says with great affection.
