S&P 500 Today, October 26, 2026: Nasdaq Leads Wall Street Rally as AI Stocks Recover

US stocks advanced on Monday, October 26, 2026, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite heading toward their strongest daily performances in more than a month. Technology shares led the recovery as renewed interest in artificial intelligence companies helped improve sentiment following a difficult period for Wall Street.

The rally came ahead of a major week for corporate earnings, the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision and important US economic releases. Lower oil prices also provided some relief from inflation concerns, although uncertainty surrounding energy supplies and the cost of AI infrastructure remained important market themes.

The S&P 500 gained 70.17 points, while the Nasdaq advanced 325.16 points. The Dow rose 168.52 points.

The Nasdaq’s outperformance reflected stronger demand for technology and semiconductor shares. The broader S&P 500 also benefited from the recovery, while the Dow recorded more moderate gains.

The advance followed two consecutive weekly declines for the S&P 500. During the week ended October 23, the index lost approximately 0.5%, while the Nasdaq declined 0.7%. The Dow gained 0.4% over the same period.

Nvidia and AI Stocks Support the Market Recovery

Artificial intelligence remained one of the most important influences on Monday’s trading.

Nvidia shares advanced approximately 2.5% in an intraday market report, helping lift sentiment toward semiconductor companies. The gains followed recent volatility across AI-related stocks as investors reassessed the financial requirements of building data centers and purchasing advanced computing equipment.

The sector’s recovery was not uniform. Companies that depend heavily on financing large computing infrastructure projects continued experiencing sharp price movements.

Investors remained focused on whether growing demand for AI services could generate sufficient revenue and profitability to support the substantial capital investment being made across the industry.

Anthropic IPO Filing Renews Interest in AI

Anthropic’s public filing for a US initial public offering attracted attention on Monday. The company disclosed rapid revenue growth alongside substantial losses, highlighting both the commercial expansion and significant costs associated with developing advanced AI systems.

Semiconductor stocks benefited from renewed interest in the sector. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index gained more than 3% in an intraday report, while technology and consumer discretionary shares led the broader S&P 500’s advance.

The filing did not establish a confirmed IPO date or offering price. Its importance for Monday’s market was the renewed attention it brought to AI investment and the financial outlook for the industry.

Meta’s AI Financing Plans and Tesla’s Rally

Meta Platforms announced plans to raise up to $95 billion in equity financing for artificial intelligence infrastructure, including data centers and computing capacity. The proposal involves an initial stock sale and potential additional financing.

Meta’s shares fluctuated during Monday’s session as investors assessed the implications of further equity issuance and infrastructure spending.

Tesla also advanced after an analyst upgrade. At approximately 11:30 a.m. EDT, its shares were up 6.3%, reaching their highest level in more than three months. The move added to gains among large technology and growth companies.

Oil Prices and Treasury Yields Remain Important

Crude oil prices initially declined as diplomatic efforts aimed at easing Middle Eastern tensions continued. Brent crude moved toward $109 per barrel during the morning before recovering to approximately $111.40 in a subsequent afternoon report.

The changing oil price illustrated the continuing uncertainty surrounding global energy supplies. Elevated crude prices remained a concern for inflation and business operating costs.

US Treasury yields also moved. In an afternoon market report, the benchmark 10-year yield stood at 4.98%, compared with 5.00% late Friday. The two-year yield was approximately 4.71%, compared with 4.69% at the previous close.

The US advance estimate of third-quarter GDP and September Personal Income and Outlays report, including PCE inflation data, are both scheduled for Thursday, October 29, at 8:30 a.m. EDT. These releases had not been published at the time of Monday’s market update.
