Monday’s Indian market news goes beyond the opening cues, with fresh developments across regulation, institutional shareholding, corporate plans, IPO activity and economic indicators. Here are ten updates that investors and market watchers may want to follow.
1. SEBI reviews short-selling and securities-lending rules
SEBI is reviewing the framework for short selling and securities lending and borrowing to improve liquidity and price discovery. Its wider reform agenda also includes broker compliance, depository safeguards, clearing efficiency and a market-making framework for corporate bonds. These are proposals under review, not final rule changes. Investors will watch for consultation papers and implementation details before assessing their effect on trading activity.
2. FIIs raise stakes in Lenskart, Meesho and Eternal
Quarterly shareholding data showed foreign institutional investors increasing their holdings in three consumer-service companies during July–September. Their stake in Lenskart rose 5.5 percentage points to 18.26%, Meesho’s increased 4.65 points to 9.84%, and Eternal’s rose 3.92 points to 33.01%. The changes offer a company-level view of institutional positioning during a quarter when overall foreign flows were volatile; they do not guarantee continued buying.
3. Catamaran’s disclosed holdings include two new listed-company positions
Narayana Murthy’s family office, Catamaran, held approximately 1.06% of Kirloskar Oil Engines and 1.05% of Ador Welding at the end of the September quarter, according to shareholding disclosures. The positions were valued at roughly ₹289 crore and ₹23 crore, respectively, in a recent analysis. These are portfolio disclosures, not a public recommendation. Investors may compare the new holdings with each company’s filings and operating performance.

4. Vedanta chairman outlines a professional-management plan
Anil Agarwal said Vedanta group companies would be run by professional managers rather than family members, while majority ownership would remain with the group’s London-listed parent. He also set a near-term combined market-capitalisation ambition of $100 billion for the group companies, compared with roughly $55 billion at present. The figure is an expressed ambition, not company guidance or a guaranteed outcome; the market will look for execution and financial progress.
5. EAAA India Alternatives IPO opens for subscription
EAAA India Alternatives’ ₹1,200-crore IPO opens on October 26 and closes on October 28, with a price band of ₹1,585–₹1,665 per share. The issue is an offer for sale by the Edelweiss Group, so the company itself will not receive proceeds from the public offer. It had raised about ₹360 crore from anchor investors ahead of the opening. Subscription demand and the final allocation will provide the next signals from the primary market.
6. Dividend and corporate-action dates put several shares in focus
A busy corporate-action calendar runs through October 30. Hexaware Technologies has a ₹9.50 interim-dividend record date on October 26; L&T Technology Services has a ₹20 dividend record date on October 27; and Cyient and Nippon Life India Asset Management have ₹12 and ₹9.50 dividend record dates on October 28. CRISIL’s ₹17 and Shriram Finance’s ₹6.50 interim dividends have October 29 record dates. Investors should check exchange notices for eligibility and settlement details.
7. India’s October business activity reaches a four-month high
The preliminary HSBC India Composite PMI rose to 56.7 in October from 55.9 in September, beating the 56.1 forecast and marking its strongest reading in four months. Services led the pickup, while manufacturing activity continued to expand at a slower pace. The survey also showed employment was broadly unchanged, ending a nine-month hiring run. The figures point to firmer orders, but not yet a matching improvement in job creation.

8. Government-bond yields extend their weekly rise
India’s benchmark 10-year government-bond yield climbed 9 basis points last week to 7.474%, recording its tenth consecutive weekly increase. Higher oil costs, currency pressure and expectations for future interest-rate moves have kept bond traders cautious. Bond yields influence borrowing costs across the economy and can affect how investors compare fixed-income returns with equities. The next moves in oil, inflation expectations and central-bank communication will be closely watched.
9. Scotch-import classification dispute puts trade-pact terms under scrutiny
A trade group representing liquor makers has argued that India’s treatment of bulk Scotch imports could undermine tariff benefits negotiated under the India–UK trade pact. The dispute centres on whether bulk whisky qualifies for the reduced duty that applies to certain imports. The pact lowered eligible Scotch tariffs to 75% from 150%, with a further phased reduction planned. The classification issue remains under examination; it is not a final ruling on the companies involved.
10. SIDBI survey finds stronger confidence among MSMEs
SIDBI’s latest outlook survey showed the MSME Business Confidence Index rising to 60.4 in July–September from 59.3 in the previous quarter. Manufacturing sentiment was strongest, while rising input costs remained a concern. The forward-looking index for manufacturing businesses stood at 63.3 for October–December 2026. The survey offers a read on smaller firms’ operating expectations, though actual sales, costs and cash flows will determine whether optimism translates into stronger results.
These developments span market structure, corporate ownership, capital raising, payouts and business conditions. Several are proposals, ambitions or surveys rather than completed financial outcomes, so investors will need to track formal filings and follow-through as more information becomes available.
