Marvell Technology Stock: How AI Data Centers Could Drive Its Next Growth Phase

Marvell Technology (NASDAQ: MRVL) is becoming an increasingly important semiconductor company in the artificial intelligence infrastructure market. While Nvidia is better known for AI GPUs, Marvell operates in a different but critical part of the ecosystem, providing technologies for custom silicon, high-speed networking, optical connectivity, switching and data-center infrastructure. Its transformation toward AI and cloud infrastructure has made the company an important stock to watch as global spending on AI data centers continues to expand.

Marvell’s Business Is Becoming More Focused on Data Centers

The biggest change in Marvell’s business is the growing importance of its data-center segment. In fiscal 2026, Marvell generated $8.195 billion in revenue, up 42% year over year. Data-center revenue reached approximately $6.1 billion, representing about 74% of total revenue. Data-center sales increased 46% during the year, driven largely by demand for AI-related custom products and electro-optics.

This shift matters because modern AI data centers require much more than GPUs. AI systems need high-speed connections between processors, memory and servers, along with advanced switching and optical technologies to move enormous amounts of data efficiently. Marvell provides several of these technologies, giving the company exposure to the broader AI infrastructure market rather than relying on a single chip category.

AI Is Becoming the Core Growth Driver

Marvell’s latest results show that AI demand is accelerating. In the first quarter of fiscal 2027, revenue reached a record $2.418 billion, an increase of 28% from the previous year. Management guided for approximately $2.7 billion of revenue in the second quarter, representing around 35% year-over-year growth at the midpoint. The company also said it was seeing exceptionally strong AI-related bookings and raised its outlook for fiscal 2027 and fiscal 2028.

One of Marvell’s important opportunities is custom silicon. Large cloud and technology companies increasingly want customized processors and accelerators designed for their specific workloads. Marvell provides the engineering and semiconductor expertise required to develop these solutions, potentially creating a significant long-term opportunity as hyperscalers continue building their own AI infrastructure.

Connectivity Could Be Marvell’s Hidden Advantage

AI computing power is only useful when data can move quickly between different parts of a data center. This makes networking and optical connectivity increasingly important. Marvell is developing technologies covering 800G and 1.6T optical solutions, high-capacity Ethernet switching and advanced scale-up connectivity for AI systems. Management has identified these areas as major contributors to its growth outlook.

The company has also strengthened its technology portfolio through acquisitions. Marvell completed its acquisition of Celestial AI in February 2026, adding Photonic Fabric technology designed for next-generation scale-up interconnects. It also acquired XConn Technologies, which provides PCIe and CXL switching silicon and expands Marvell’s capabilities in advanced data-center switching.

NVIDIA Partnership Adds Another Growth Opportunity

Marvell is also building a stronger relationship with Nvidia. During fiscal 2027, the companies announced a strategic partnership focused on connecting Marvell’s custom XPUs and scale-up networking technologies with Nvidia’s AI infrastructure ecosystem. Marvell also completed a $2 billion issuance of Series A convertible preferred stock to Nvidia.

This relationship could become strategically important if demand for customized AI infrastructure continues to increase. Marvell does not need to compete directly with Nvidia in GPUs to benefit from the expansion of AI spending. Instead, it can participate through the infrastructure required to connect and support increasingly complex AI systems.

Key Risks for Marvell Investors

The opportunity comes with significant risks. Marvell’s valuation can become highly sensitive to expectations for AI growth, meaning the stock could experience substantial volatility if growth expectations weaken. Semiconductor demand is also cyclical, and large customers can have significant influence over revenue. Marvell is additionally investing heavily in acquisitions and new technologies, creating execution and integration risks. Its large exposure to international customers and semiconductor supply chains also leaves the business exposed to geopolitical developments and changes in global trade policies.

Marvell Technology Stock Outlook

Marvell has evolved from a diversified semiconductor company into a much more focused provider of AI and data-center infrastructure technologies. Its strong data-center growth, custom silicon opportunity, optical connectivity portfolio, strategic acquisitions and relationship with Nvidia give the company several potential growth drivers.

The key question for investors is whether Marvell can convert today’s strong AI demand and bookings into sustained revenue and earnings growth over the next several years. If AI infrastructure spending remains strong, Marvell could continue benefiting from the expansion of the data-center ecosystem. However, investors should also consider valuation, customer concentration, semiconductor cycles and execution risks before making an investment decision.
