Indian companies reported a mixed set of second-quarter results on Tuesday, October 27. Cipla’s profit declined, while several companies across pharmaceuticals, jewellery, chemicals and manufacturing reported year-on-year growth. Figures are in ₹ crore, rounded to the nearest crore, and YoY compares the September 2026 quarter with the September 2025 quarter.
In Simple Words: What These Results Mean
Every three months, listed companies tell investors how much they sold (revenue) and how much they earned after all costs (net profit). Comparing this quarter with the same quarter last year (YoY) shows whether a business is growing. Today, nine of the ten companies earned more profit than a year ago, and Cipla was the exception. When revenue and profit both rise, the business is generally growing well. When profit rises much faster than revenue, costs are being managed better. A very big jump, like OneSource’s, often starts from a very small base, so it looks larger than it is. Cipla’s lower profit was partly linked to weaker overseas sales.
Cipla: Lower Revenue and Profit
Cipla’s consolidated revenue declined year on year, while net profit fell more sharply. The company attributed part of the revenue comparison to a reporting change that moved certain marketing and promotional expenses from other expenses to deductions from revenue, and said it did not affect profit or cash flow. Weaker North American revenue, with moderation in generic Revlimid sales, weighed on the overseas business, while India grew.
